A new art exhibition featuring statues of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and John Lewis was unveiled yesterday in New York’s Union Square.
The exhibit, “Seeinjustice,” was created by Confront Art and is the organization’s first installation.
Artist Chris Carnabuci explained why he chose to honor each individual as colossal figures in the Civil Rights and BLM movements.
“The exhibition is entitled “See Injustice” — in one way or another, each of these individuals saw injustice,” he said.
Carnabuci also said that he hopes his work highlights the need for social change and using art as a way to ignite civil discourse.
Each statue weighs about 1,000 pounds and is made of 200 thinly-cut slabs of African Mahogany, which was then coated in bronze paint.
The statues will be on display in Union Square for 30 days before they are moved to another location in the city.
