Two Golden State Warriors have been fined after Saturday night’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies. In the last 43.6 seconds of the 4th quarter of the team’s 111-101 loss to the Grizzlies, Steph Curry chucked his mouthpiece toward an official. But, when the ref failed to call the foul on his layup, Curry threw his mouthpiece out of frustration.
The star guard was immediately ejected from the game, but the incident prompted a domino effect of frustration and agitation. In an attempt to defend Curry, Kevin Durant was tossed out the game as well. Amid the ejection, Andre Iguodala, earned a $15,000 fine for “verbally abusing a game official.”
Following the incident, Curry clarified his actions, saying, “I didn’t throw my mouthpiece at the ref. I got better aim than that. I threw it out of frustration.”
“That last play, I thought I got fouled, and my frustration boiled over,” he continued. “I did something stupid. I deserved to get kicked out, and that’s what happened.”
“I’ve thrown my mouthpiece plenty of times and thrown it on the floor,” Curry said. “It’s probably not the best thing to do, but I’ve done it. [I] own up to it. I don’t think it’s a suspension or anything. My pockets will be a lot lighter for sure, though.”
