Pat McAfee and Stephen A Smith are two of the more prominent ESPN faces on the network. Smith had the former all-pro punter on First Take every Tuesday throughout the NFL Season. The chemistry has been genuine, and nothing is publicly seen to believe otherwise. However, a recent article in the New York Post claimed that Smith and McAfee got into a ‘explosive argument’ in a recent phone call several weeks ago, during which McAfee allegedly called Smith a “Motherf*cker” at the end of the conversation.
Ryan Glasspeigel of the New York Post claims that the argument came after Smith decided on a soon-to-be-announced project his production company will be releasing in collaboration with ESPN.
Mr SAS Productions is a big deal and something Smith has probably wanted to be able to control the full narrative on, especially with it being one of his initial products that the masses will see.
After the conversation, it was reported that Smith had banned Pat from First Take. However, when they were reached out to for comments, they both had nothing but kind words and said the situation had been resolved.
“Pat McAfee and I have no issue and the notion that he’d be banned from ‘First Take’ is B.S,” Smith reportely responded via email.
“We are No.1 and he has absolutely contributed to us remaining No.1. McAfee was asked to come on each Tuesday through the Super Bowl and he did just that, kicking ass each time he came on the air.
Pat McAfee was also adamant about his respect for Smith.
“I have nothing but love for Stephen A.,” McAfee told The Post in a text message. “I think I’m still welcome on ‘First Take’? I was scheduled through football season to join on Tuesdays, hopefully next year that’ll happen as well.”
It seems like there is water under the bridge. However, two Americas might have their own opinion on this situation. It is worth keeping an eye on throughout this year.
