The New York Giants have kicked off NFL free agency with a series of lackluster and indecisive moves. While they managed to strengthen their offensive line—widely seen as their biggest issue last season—they made a surprising decision to re-sign right tackle Greg Van Roten.

In a market where right tackles were considered overpriced, many believed a change was necessary. However, it seems Giants fans will have to wait another year for an upgrade. The team is also set to host quarterback Russell Wilson this week in an effort to address their ongoing quarterback concerns.
The Giants’ failure to re-sign Saquon Barkley, along with their decision to invest in Daniel Jones and later release him, has drawn sharp criticism. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith didn’t hold back during First Take this morning, calling out the franchise’s questionable decisions.
“The New York Giants have been to the playoffs twice in the last 13, 14 years,” Smith said. “They have been awful. Then you got a GM that’s wearing diapers in his position. He just got there, and what is he known for? It’s not losing Saquon Barkley—mistakes happen, nobody’s flawless.
“How do you go with the cameras rolling and be all dismissive and disrespectful to clearly your best player, and then you keep him? They drafted Daniel Jones, gave him $40 million a year, but they don’t have $16 million to give Saquon Barkley?
“But the reigning Super Bowl champions find a way to give him 20? You got to be kidding me. This is the New York Giants. They are awful! To allow this disintegration to happen in front of our eyes is criminal.”
