This is the seventh year that quarterback Patrick Mahomes has made it to the AFC Championship, which coincides with his seven years in the league.

This speaks volumes about the dominance of Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. With four Super Bowl appearances already under his belt, Mahomes is now aiming to reach his fifth and win his third consecutive Super Bowl championship. If successful, this Kansas City team would become the first in NFL history to accomplish such a feat.
Stephen A. Smith was asked on First Take this morning how monumental a three-peat for a 27-year-old quarterback would be.
“It would be epic, no question about it, because it never has been done in the history of football,” Smith said. “And to be in this era with these outstanding athletes, the way the game has evolved and the kind of athletes you have to go up against, to repeat one, two, three… to three-peat as a Super Bowl champion all of those years. Especially when you consider it’s the same quarterback, it’s the same tight end, it’s the same head coach, it’s the same defensive coordinator… if they win a three-peat, Tom Brady didn’t even win back-to-back-to-back Super Bowl titles. It would be huge for the sport, it would be huge for the city, it would be huge for the franchise, and it would cement Patrick Mahomes as the greatest quarterback in the history of the National Football League.”
A valid sentiment shared by Stephen A. Smith. Even in what some might call a “down year” for Mahomes, his numbers are as impressive as anyone in the NFL. He holds a 93.5 passer rating, with 26 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and nearly 4,000 passing yards on the season.
Sunday’s matchup will mark the second AFC Championship clash between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills.
