When Stephen A Smith released the teaser for the newest episode of the Stephen A Smith Show, he promised that he would lay into his former colleague Jason Whitlock, and he did just that Wednesday night.
Jason Whitlock is a right-wing commentator who has a lot of enemies within the sports multimedia space due to his lack of empathy and his unhinged opinions, which often stir up controversy and give him the clicks he is so desperately looking for.
Since Whitlock’s departure in 2015, he has floated around to other networks and companies and has not found a solid place to stay for more than a few years. His apparent lack of empathy and incompetence has made him an unlikable figure. Whitlock has been known to make absurd comments, such as his statement in December where he expressed his problem with women voting and his conspiracy theories about Michelle Obama being transgender. Furthermore, he called into question the authenticity of the stories in Smith’s memoir when it was released in January.
Stephen A. Smith has refrained from explicitly mentioning Jason Whitlock and discussing their past working relationship. However, Smith said he reached out to his pastor, executives at ESPN, and even his beloved sister Carmen. He knew he was going to get out of character. However, given the platform he was on, there was nothing anybody could tell him. He was prepared to go in on Whitlock.
Over a million views and counting, Smith provided examples as to why he would never be associated with Whitlock in his response Wednesday. He even came with receipts and referred back to a 2015 Deadspin article that referenced multiple ESPN employees who had problems with Whitlock and how many refused to work with him.
The First Take leading man also disclosed that he inked a clause in his contract upon Jason Whitlock’s arrival, ensuring that they would never be required to work together. That’s why he never made it on First Take.
“I don’t know of anyone who has this in their contracts. I had it in my contract, and I have a copy of it, where it specifically stipulates that I never work with Jason Whitlock,” Smith said.
Whitlock’s chances of being on First Take were dead before they started.
“Did you tell them that once that same article in Deadspin came out, weeks later you wrote a lengthy apology to me in an email, begging me to forgive you, pointing out how you were betrayed by this particular writer, so you know how I must feel that you betrayed me?” Smith said a little after 27 minutes into his soliloquy. “Did you tell the folks that, you b*&%$? Did you tell ’em, you fat piece of shit?”
Smith tried to befriend Whitlock and even stood up for him in the past before Whitlock betrayed him, he says.
“I actually tried to speak up for this damn Cretin,” Smith said. “This bastard is worth less than a cockroach.” He also referred to Whitlock as Cain. “You get within a mile of his presence, wrap your arms around yourself to protect your soul. He is Cain. He is a devil. The worst. That’s all I have to say.
Whitlock responded on Twitter last night, saying that SAS “made a fool of himself.” He tried to refer to Smith as unprofessional for his reaction.
Stephen A Smith, the self-proclaimed face of ESPN, embarrassed himself and ESPN last night. He vows to never say my name again. No problem. He doesn't have to say my name to explain the hard-to-believe stories in his "memoir." Amazed seemingly no media outlet in the country is…
