According to reports, Houston Rockets guard Sterling Brown “could have died” when he was jumped outside a nightclub in Miami on Sunday night.
Brown was apparently jumped and hit in the head with a bottle during a violent altercation that was so serious he required immediate medical attention.
A source told The Athletic, “If he hadn’t been as physically strong and tough, he might not have made it out of the situation (Sunday) night.”
The source also claimed the Rocket Organization downplayed the severity of the situation, claiming the guard “needed multiple heavy stitching jobs for his facial injuries and underwent several tests.”
Reports claim the altercation started after Brown entered the wrong van when the group left the club and ended up in a heated verbal exchange with at least three individuals in that vehicle. Things quickly escalated, and the group began physically beating Brown and allegedly hit him with a bottle.
In addition to a general concern about Brown’s health, the league’s health and safety protocols are bringing more scrutiny to the issue, especially since the league’s guidelines prohibit players from going to bars, lounges, or clubs at this time.
The league is currently investigating, and Brown has returned home to Houston to continue his recovery.
