First X-Files got the reboot treatment and now the hit FOX series, “24”, is returning — and it’s got a new star. It has been announced that the new “Jack” of the upcoming 24: Legacy is none other than Corey Hawkins, the actor many of us know as Dr. Dre in Straight Outta Compton.
In the 24 reboot Hawkins plays Eric Carter, “a strong and smart former Army Ranger who finds himself pulled back into action as his past comes looking for him. He eventually turns to CTU for help in saving his life and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil.”
24’s original star, Kiefer Sutherland, reportedly signed on as Executive Producer of the show, and may make an appearance or two. “I have said from the beginning that the real star of 24 is the idea, and I mean that wholeheartedly,” Sutherland recently said of the revival. “I have every faith they’ll do something cool and clever.”
Don’t expect to see many of the original cast in the new 24 reboot, however. This one is all new. “There’s a time jump, a new organization, a completely different story,” Fox co-chairman and CEO Dana Walden teased last week. “It’s a contemporary story about the potential to activate sleeper cells in the United States. There are nods in the pilot to prior CTU agents, but no ongoing characters.”
So far there’s only been a pilot ordered, but if all goes well, 24: Legacy will have a 12-episode season like its predecessor.
