In an epic twist of Black History Month events, a white high schooler went viral on Twitter when she made a speech and said Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “freed the slaves.”
The video received nearly two million views. In the video, she says while standing on a table into a broadcaster, “I am so glad that years ago, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the first black man ending slavery, ‘cuz if not people would be whipped every day.”
The video received mixed comments as some believe teachers are failing the youth’s education while others think it’s the student’s fault.
One user commented, “Nah. The youth failing themselves because they think they know everything. I’m saying this as a 20 yr old.”
While another user commented, “this is what happens when you allow teachers to stop teaching black history because it offends them.”
Teachers have faced significant backlash since being in the crossfire of what to teach and what not to teach during Black History Month. The critical race theory bans and new restrictions make it nearly impossible for teachers to share the whole truth of Black America. Forty states introduced a bill in January to restrict lessons taught about race right before Black History Month.
