Students in India were caught on camera using a trash can to allegedly assault their teacher.
59-year-old Prakash Bogar allegedly questioned his class of students about an empty packet of chewing tobacco he allegedly found on the classroom floor. He then asked students to take care of the room, and after reprimanding them, the kids started beating him.
Video footage, which a student in the class seemingly took, shows the kids hitting the instructor. Some of the students then take a trash can and place it over Bogar’s head while he’s sitting down, IBT reports. The teacher never reported the incident, but the moment went viral online after the video was posted to social media. Now the matter is being investigated.
“Assault on a teacher by students at a school in Channagiri taluk of Davanagere district cannot be tolerated. Education Dept & police probing the matter. Instructed to take appropriate action. We’ll always be with teachers,” BC Nagesh, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education in Karnataka, reportedly said per ANI, IBT reports.
People online are calling for the students to face suspension. “The entire class needs to be suspended for a week and people involved in this crime should be jailed and should be disqualified for the entire academic year,” one user said on Twitter. But Bogar pleaded for people to show the kids grace.
“Please forgive those students, don’t file any case against them or dismiss them from classes,” he said, according to the Indian Express. He added that they made a mistake.”
“This is a lesson for them and they will be better,” said the teacher.
