Idaho students are mocking their school’s no backpack ban by carrying their belongings around in unconventional items like strollers and aquariums.
On September 23, a 13-year-old at Rigby Middle School in Jefferson County, Idaho, brought a gun to school in her backpack. The district announced it would implement a no-backpack mandate for two middle schools and two high schools in response. “We are doing this as a precautionary measure,” said a spokeswoman for Jefferson School District 251.
Now that students are blocked from using backpacks to carry their items, they’ve resorted to using unusual substitutes like a popcorn machine. Some of the students on TikTok have documented the entire ordeal.
Students have been seen with children’s Fisher-price shopping carts, regular shopping carts, wooden crates, sleds, and more.
There are no details on when the ban will be lifted or if the school has taken issue with the student’s movement against the backpack ban.
