A new study shows video gamers may burn over 300 calories in just one hour of gameplay.
When it comes to being a gamer, your mind is definitely putting in some work. But, who knew playing video games could also make a person physically burn calories. According to a new study, just two hours of gameplay can burn about 420 calories in men and 472 in women.
The findings – gathered by Stakester’s – say gamers are performing what would be the equivalent of 1,000 sit-ups. In a statement, the CEO and founder of Stakester’s said they knew an increased heart rate and “gaming sweats” resulted in calorie burn, but they were “surprised” by how just many calories a gamer could burn.
In the study, 50 players were tracked using smart devices that recorded their heart rate and energy consumption while playing “FIFA” and “Call of Duty: Warzone,” The New York Post reports. The male gamers burned an average of 210 calories, while female gamers burned 236 calories.
This isn’t the first time video games have proven to impact humans positively. Other studies have shown that video games improve focus and spatial reasoning, among other benefits.
