Last week we received a Baller Mail that suggested that a wardrobe stylist named JoJo was currently dating Atlanta rapper Young Thug. The Baller Mail said she previously had a relationship with Wale and Thug’s current manager, Birdman, and after seeing mushy Instagram posts where JoJo referred to Thug as “as sexy as they get” we were inclined to believe that the two were indeed an item.
Earlier today Jojo’s publicist sent out a statement denying the allegations. They mention a blog picking up the story yet never mention anyone by name. A quick Google search will show that Baller Alert was the first (and only) blog to post the story. It was a slow news day, sue us. Either way, check out Jojo’s response below. Read more to see what I have to say as well.
“The feeling you get when your family calls you with news that they saw a story on gossip blogs about me being an “industry jump off” is heart breaking. At this point in my career I do understand people will make assumptions but no means will I let it slide. For the past few years I have styled from some pretty big name artists; yet today my whole career was jeopardized by a gossip blogs linking me to Young Thug as something other than stylist to the stars.
I am sure that a lot of people don’t understand the relationship between a stylist and their client, but I want to set it straight. My roster consists of Birdman, Young Thug, Rich Homie Quan and several other known models and artists; and I love my career and daily I grow. I worked hard to build my brand and I won’t let a blog posting defame who I am.
Young Thug is a client of mines that has become a close homie, nothing more nothing less. Some of the music industry artists and execs are truly my friends, we hang out and if you see me in the club I might be with one of my clients. I have a great relationship with all my clients (male or female), so before you start calling me all types of names, make sure you know I am JoJo The Stylist. As a business woman there is an approach that must be taken early on and I want those who have attacked my character to understand slander is illegal and can negatively impact my business. And in a climate where we are trying to put an end to cyber bullying and the NO RIP (reckless internet posting) campaign which I fully support, we must also hold media outlet accountable when they use derogatory and false allegations which brings about the same negative impact.”
While I understand how hard it is to be a woman in the entertainment industry and run the risk of being linked to all of your clients, you must also take responsibility yourself. You see, if you don’t want people of social media to tie you to your clients, you should probably not use social media to talk about how much you love them or refer to them as “as sexy as they get”. When you do things of that nature, you are opening the door for those messages to be misinterpreted. In that case, you are to blame. When did it become taboo for a professional to be professional if she wanted to be referred to as a professional? It also doesn’t help when Young Thug posts the exact same photo and talks about how you make his heart melt. THAT does not seem like a client/stylist relationship. That seems to me like a romantic relationship.
In this case you should take heed to your “No Reckless.Internet.Posting” movement and stop blaming others for what you put out there to see. All the photos of Young Thug on your page, the flirting between you two, I don’t blame whoever sent in the Baller Mail for thinking you were his new boo. In fact, I don’t know if I totally believe that you’re not.
But rock on sis! Keep doing what you do and don’t let anyone tell you different.
