Supermodel Beverly Johnson made a stunning confession about how she was able to remain thin for so long in the early days of her career.
The 71-year-old hair entrepreneur sat for a recent interview with Page Six, where she revealed that her diet once consisted of cocaine, two eggs, and one bowl of rice each week. Johnson says she wanted to make sure she was “chiseled to the bone” during her mega-run in the 1970s and 1980s.
“Everyone used drugs back in the day, but that particular drug for models was used because we did not eat,” Johnson shared, further explaining that other professional models led her to think the drug wasn’t addictive at the time but was instead a harmless appetite suppressant.
Describing the concerning effects of the dangerous diet, Johnson confessed, “I would be shaking in a cab, and I would say pull over because I have to get a bag of M&Ms.” However, she would frequently be praised for maintaining her slim figure, which was required at the time for women in fashion.
While she excelled in the industry, Johnson said her breakthrough moment came when her mother, Gloria Johnson, helped her out of the bathtub and forced her to look at herself naked in the mirror. Johnson could finally see the extent of her extreme drug and eating disorder. After witnessing her bones protruding, she kicked her habit for good and has now been free of drugs for over 50 years.
