Suspect in University of Virginia Shooting Identified and Taken into Custody

Early Monday morning, students were advised to “RUN HIDE FIGHT” as authorities searched for the suspect responsible for the shooting at the University of Virginia that left three people dead and at least two more injured.

It has been announced that the suspect, Christopher Darnell Jones, was identified and taken into custody around 11:19 am Monday.

According to a tweet from the University of Virginia Office of Emergency Management, at around 10:30 pm, shots were heard in a parking structure on Culbreth Road next to the school’s drama building.

The university’s president, Jim Ryan, sent out an email later to students: “I am heartbroken to report that the shooting has resulted in three fatalities.”

UVA officials have confirmed the names of the three deceased football players, Devin Chandler, Level Davis Jr., and D’Sean Perry.  The identities of the two others injured in the shooting have yet to be released.

It was later announced that classes would be canceled on Monday.

Ryan then described the suspect as “one of our students” in his message about Jones.
