On Sunday, an SUV raced through a Christmas parade in the small town of Waukesha, Wisconsin, killing five people and injuring more than 40 others, including young children.
After the incident in the community of roughly 72,000 people, Waukesha Police Chief Dan Thompson told reporters that one person had been arrested and that the vehicle had been retrieved.
Thompson said it was unclear whether the incident was related to terrorism, but that there was no additional danger and that the shelter order had been withdrawn.
A video released to YouTube showed a red SUV speeding alongside and into the parade, apparently running over more than a dozen people before onlookers rushed to help.
In an attempt to stop the mayhem, Thompson said one officer fired shots at the truck. In Another video, it appeared to show police shooting at the truck as it smashed through street barriers.
Thompson stated that, contrary to previous reports, police did not believe shots were fired from the vehicle.
A woman informed Fox6 in Milwaukee that the SUV had hit a dance team of girls aged 9 to 15. Small groups surrounded the injured girls in a video shared on social media.
According to WISN-TV, the driver also hit a group of “Dancing Grannies” and at least one person flipped over the hood of the SUV.
The Milwaukee Dancing Grannies wrote on Facebook, “Please keep the Grannies, all those who were injured, and all those who witnessed this horrible event in your thoughts and prayers.”
According to reports by TMZ, a rapper by the name of Darrell Brooks Jr., who went by the stage name Mathboi Fly, has been identified as a person of interest in the tragedy.
The rapper allegedly had a music video that took place in Milwaukee a few years ago that showed the same the red Ford Escape that was seen in the horrific videos posted to social media.
The music video has since been removed from YouTube with a message that read, “This video is no longer available because the YouTube account associated with this video has been terminated.”
