During a recent livestream, the singer shared his thoughts on the Valentine’s Day project, “$ome $exy $ongs,” suggesting that it consists of scrapped tracks that didn’t make previous albums.
“I feel like [Drake] recorded a bunch of s**t,” T-Pain said. “And in order to keep [PARTYNEXTDOOR] around, I feel like you could take 10 or 15 of these songs, put a verse on them b***hes PARTY, and that’s our album bro.”
Despite his critique, the Florida singer clarified that he isn’t saying the songs are bad.
“I’m not saying that they’re bad,” he added. “These are just songs that didn’t make albums. Or PARTY came to him with an album and was like, ‘Hey Drake, could you put verses on these songs.’”
Whether the album is made up of new or previously unreleased tracks, “$ome $exy $ongs” is proving to be a massive success. Billboard reports that the 21-track LP set a record for the biggest R&B/soul album debut in Apple Music history.
The album features Yebba and Chino Pacas. It also contains a lyric where Drake praises Melyssa Ford as a “legend from the 6” while taking a shot at Joe Budden, calling him a “d**k sucker.”
Ford admitted she was “still processing” the shoutout but updated her Instagram bio accordingly. Budden, however, appeared unbothered, simply stating, “I was happy.”
