T-Pain Talks New Show, Longevity and Respect: “I Feel Like I Got The Respect I Deserve. But The Key To That Is Not Looking For It”

Earlier this week, season two of T-Pain’s show, ‘School of Business’ aired on Fuse, showcasing unique start-ups created by millennials. However, ahead of the premiere, the Florida-bred entertainer opened up about the show and revealed what’s to come on the new season.

“I pick out of like 100 businesses before we do the show, and then we pick out of those which ones we’re going to air, and stuff like that” T-Pain said. “So it’s a big process. If you make it on the show that means I picked your business out, specifically.”

“It was a long process but we got through it,” he added. “Any business that I went to do, I invested in and we got all the information about it and that’s what the show was for.”

As he continued, the singer elaborated on his investment process and how it connected to the show. He also touched on his longstanding career in the music business, revealing tips on how to stay relevant in the ever-changing industry.

“Treat people fairly, regardless of how they treat you,” Pain said. “Have integrity. Make sure that nobody can say negative things about you. Regardless of what they do to you, regardless of how they treat you, regardless of how much money you pay them. Treat everybody how you want to be treated and eventually it will get to that point to where everything is reciprocated.”

“Even in that moment, nobody can talk shit about you. Nobody can say anything bad about you,” he said. “They’ll never be able to say you’re a bad person.”

With the resurgence of the New Millennium boy bands and the overwhelming love for the 90s, T-Pain also opened up about his impact in the industry and shared his thoughts on whether or not his iconic sound of the 2000s will ever make a comeback.

“Everything comes back around, 10 or so years afterwards,” Pain said, before he touched on his own history and career. “I feel like I got the respect I deserve. But the key components to that whole thing is not looking for it. Knowing your own truth, knowing that you’re great, knowing that you’ve been working hard, knowing that there’s more behind the scenes than people can see. So, they won’t give you the respect unless they see all those things, and if you’re not boasting about it.”

“It’s not something to brag about. It’s just having that self respect. If you have that self-respect, you don’t look for respect from anybody else. But it’s great to get it, it’s a bonus.”
