Author, Actress & Vegan Foodie, Tabitha Brown has taken social media by storm with her compassionate wisdom, funny catchphrases, and delicious vegan home-cooked recipes. America’s favorite auntie, homegirl, and best friend sat down with Baller Alert to chat about her new book, “Feeding the Soul (Because It’s My Business): Finding Our Way to Joy, Love, and Freedom.”

Brown is one of the most popular personalities in the world and has been inspiring people since 2018. In this exclusive interview, entertainment journalist Angie B also spoke with her about practicing kindness daily, how to discover what’s feeding your soul, the origins of her catchphrases, and more.

What type of feedback have you been receiving since the start of your book tour?

Hunny, people have been blowing my mind. This is my first time ever going on a book tour, this is my first book and I didn’t even know what to expect but the support that poured out of every city filled my heart. People are reading the book and they’re saying that their souls are truly being fed. It is helping them in their walk and in their faith. I tell my stories that are real and that have helped me in my life and when people read that — I guess they feel like “Me too Tab.” It’s been amazing. I still am pretty mind blown.

What has been one of the most inspirational or heartfelt things a fan has told you on your book tour?

There’s been so many. I get a lot of people who told me they started eating the way that I eat because I never forced them, I just showed them. So many people are not diabetic anymore or have high cholesterol anymore. I’m like oh my goodness. When I started doing what I do, that was not the vision. I had no idea I would change lives. Also, those who have read the book and mentioned how me sharing the story about my son and what he has gone through has helped them with their kids. It helped them realize that it’s not about us at that moment. Sometimes we have to let people be and be there for support. There are so many great stories.

How did you discover what was feeding your soul?

Life. I had been through a lot and when I got to my darkest place I realized I had really not been free. I hadn’t been true to myself and I was exhausted. I didn’t want to live that way anymore. I decided that day forward, I gave my life to God. I said to God, “If you can heal me, you can have me.” From that day I was taking layers of the old Tabitha off. In doing that, I found my freedom again, I found myself again. That began to feed my soul.

Where did the catchphrases like “That’s my business,” come from?

It’s so funny. Catchphrases are like a thing in the south. I’m from the south. I grew up around my great granddaddy and my daddy who are all storytellers — and when you’re around that, you become that. I didn’t realize it until I was doing videos and I would often repeat things — but because it’s my business that just started when I began cooking live. I really do talk that way. That’s how I live my life. When I end my videos like, “have a good day and if you can’t, don’t go messing up nobody else’s,” that came from my daddy. He raised me that way. He tells me that till this day. I got somebody’s old spirit inside of me. They’ve been telling me I’ve been old my whole life.

How do you practice nonjudgemental kindness and love daily?

This is how I feel about myself. I want to love myself every day. I don’t want to judge myself every day. I want to be easy on myself because the world is hard enough. So I start with me and everything I want to give to myself, I want to give to others. I feel like we are here to love each other. We’re here to see each other, have compassion, and be kind to each other. Judgment does not play a role in that. It just doesn’t. I don’t feel like that is our job. I simply feel like we’re here to love each other and I’m intentional with that every day. I want to make someone feel well every day. It feels good to do that.
