Taco Bell is bringing back its Mexican Pizza.
In September 2020, Taco Bell dropped its Mexican Pizza from its menus as part of a move toward more sustainable packaging. The restaurant is answering the prayers of the food item’s fan base by bringing it back as an option.
Aside from the slew of fans pushing for the food item’s comeback, there was also an online petition asking for the return of the Mexican Pizza. The petition gained almost 200,000 signatures, and some members of the Indian American community regarded the menu item as one of the few “fun” veggie options the restaurant has.
“Like many Indian-Americans who grew up vegetarian, we had limited access to the ‘fun’ fast food, so Taco Bell became a bridge to belonging in American culture for many kids like me who grew up in immigrant households,” said in the petition’s creator Krish Jagirdar in a press release.
As for its packaging, the restaurant has reportedly improved it and has “worked to streamline operations and ingredient sourcing, and leave a lighter footprint at the same time.”
The Mexican Pizza will be $4.49 and available on May 17 for regular purchase.
