Taco Bell wants your used sauce packets back so they can reuse them.
Recycling is one of the most efficient ways to help preserve and protect the Earth. Taco Bell is doing its part by asking consumers to run their used sauces back to them so they can recycle them, as more than 8 billion of them end up in landfills every year.
Their move comes as the company gained a new partnership with TerraCycle, which works to convert non-recyclable products and waste into raw materials used in new products, NPR reports. “Recycling just got saucy,” Taco Bell wrote on its website.
Taco Bell first tried to combat the issue by collecting the packets thrown away inside the restaurant. But with most people eating at home nowadays, the company has rerouted to asking customers to ship their packers to TerraCycle.
When the packets arrive at TerraCycle, they are cleaned, melted down, and then remolded into plastic that can be used for other items.
