Initially when I heard that Tahiry would be giving advice on dating rappers/entertainers, I expected to hear nothing but man bashing given the situation we see played out on Love & Hip Hop every week. The only place I would have been prepared to debate Tahiry is the fact that she still continues to deal with men in the sports/entertainment world, therefore subjecting herself to the negativity. Luckily she didn’t go there and with that said, after watching the video, she actually gives some pretty sound advice.
“If you date a regular guy, you have issues. Multiply that by a million when you’re dating someone more successful,” she tells Complex, “there’s also the time, the scheduling. You sacrifice a lot. Not everything that glitters is gold. I would say there is good and bad in both.”
Tahiry goes on to say “Overall I think it’s important to know the person. The real person. Not the person the audience knows,” which is great advice when it comes to dating someone in the lime light.
Tahiry doesn’t neglect to touch on the subject of groupies. “In order to deal with these men you have to be very conscious of what you’re getting into and be very very secure. I’ve been in situations where women, knowing I was Joe’s girlfriend, don’t show respect and they would come and be all in his face. But I mean, he’s a rapper and I couldn’t just punch every girl that came up to him. You know, it just comes with the territory. You know you’re coming home and he’s coming home to you.”
She also talks about how hard it is for men in the limelight to be faithful, what kind of gifts she accepts from ballers (she says not to buy her anything she can afford, the bigger the better), and defending your man on social media. You can check out the entire interview below.
