One week after the hospitalization of Tamar Braxton, boyfriend David Adefeso broke his silence to say she is “receiving the best available medical attention” to “strengthen her mental health.”
On Thursday, Adefeso spoke with The Blast to offer an update on Tamar’s health, saying she is now in recovery.
Tamar’s boyfriend has been by her side since she was found unresponsive on July 16 in what may have been a possible suicide attempt. Now, Adefeso says he is supporting her through this time and the doctor’s decisions regarding her ongoing treatment.
“On behalf of Tamar Braxton, I want to thank her fans and the public for the ongoing thoughts and prayers. Tamar is a beautifully talented woman, a devoted mother, a loving girlfriend, a dear sister, and a special friend to countless people,” David started.
“This is an extremely difficult time for Tamar and her family as she navigates professional and personal struggles, including her battle with depression.”
A representative for Braxton told People on Tuesday that the Braxton Family Values reality star was transported to an undisclosed facility for “further evaluation and treatment.” The facility will provide her with highly specialized mental health treatment, with focus on depression, anxiety, and sexual assault trauma.
“Tamar is currently receiving the best available medical attention to address those struggles and strengthen her mental health, and her family and I will remain by her side throughout her treatment,” David said. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sources told The Blast that David is Tamar’s “rock” and has been beside her for the past two years, even when “she felt alone.”
Adefeso also spoke on the fact that mental illness is very common and shared his hopes that Tamar’s fans and the public will continue to support her through this time. “Mental health is a common issue, affecting 1 in 5 Americans. Please continue to send prayers and hope as Tamar continues the path to recovery and ultimate happiness. We ask to please respect Tamar’s privacy and her family’s privacy during this important time of healing,” he said to The Blast.
Adefeso is the one who found Tamar in the hotel room unresponsive and made the frantic call to 911. The two went public with their relationship in April 2019, when Tamar told People they have a “regular, amazing relationship” and that her family loves him.
“He’s really kind of hard to not love because he’s a great guy, comes from a great family, has great morals, and he loves my son to pieces,” she said. “We get along great, and he’s great,” she added.
