Fireworks: 2 NFL Players: 0
The July 4th festivities last weekend have already claimed two victims. First, it was reported that NY Giants’ defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul injured his hand while trying to light fireworks at his house. Pierre-Paul suffered several burns on his hands and fingers and ended up having to have his index finger amputated. Bucs’ cornerback C.J. Wilson was also injured over the weekend while playing with fireworks and it was initially reported by the team that his injuries were pretty significant. Well, it turns out that he lost two fingers because of the accident, which could very well mean the end of his career.
Wilson was at his home in Lincolnton, NC when the incident happened. According to his father, Wilson tried to set off the fireworks but they did not pop out of the canister when they exploded. He was taken by his family and friends to the hospital where he got treated.
The 25-year-old NFL baller has played for the Buccaneers for one season and appeared in two games last year. At this point, the injury has a bigger impact on Wilson than it does on the Buccaneers, who still have a talented pool of cornerbacks to choose from if they lose Wilson. On the other hand, if Wilson attempts to play again in the future, the loss of two fingers is going to seriously impact his skills on the field and make it that much harder to compete for a starting spot on any roster.
