Taraji P. Henson is facing backlash after she questioned why there isn’t a #MuteHarveyWeinstein hashtag.
Every person has their opinion about #RKelly and his decades of sexual abuse towards women and underage girls. The uproar has caused various responses including those who are wondering why there seemingly isn’t as much attention going towards other sexual predators like #HarveyWeinstein. Henson became one of those celebs when she pondered why Weinstein doesn’t have a mute hashtag of her own.
On Tuesday, the “Empire” star posted to her Instagram stories saying, “Checking on these #mute for a friend.” She then looked up numerous #MuteRKelly hashtags before typing in #MuteWeinstein which only had one post. She then went back and searched the #MuteHarveyWeinstein to prove the hashtag was hardly used.

What Henson didn’t take note on is the usage of “mute.” “Mute R. Kelly” was made up to reference Kelly as a musician. In addition, Harvey’s sexual misconduct ignited the “Me Too” movement, which led to celebrities wearing all black to the 2018 Golden Globes.
Weinstein is also scheduled to appear in court for his sexual assault on May 6. Shocked and puzzled by Henson’s comments, many fans spoke out against Henson. One Twitter user wrote, “Taraji. Taraji. I don’t understand why y’all older black folk do this every time. The “absence” of outrage in YOUR bubble, doesn’t mean it does not exist. Weinstein is literally on trial as we speak. Which is more than we’ll ever get for R. Kelly. Why the hell would you do this?”
Henson later responded via Twitter saying, “LET ME BE CLEAR R. KELLY IS GUILTY AND WRONG AND SHOULD BE MUTED PERIOD!!!!!”
