Taraji P. Henson is seriously considering taking her talents outside the U.S.
During a recent chat with People, the “Hidden Figures” star expressed that she no longer wants to live in the country as she gets older.
“I’ve been thinking about that for a long time. I was thinking about it the first time I went to Italy. I was like, ‘Oh, I could live here,'” she explained.
Henson first shared her dream of becoming an expat in 2022, explaining that it stemmed from coping with the challenging political and social climate in America at the time.
“That’s something that comes with 50,” she told People in that earlier chat. You get tired of fighting. I’m tired.”
Despite her longing for a fresh start abroad, Henson acknowledges the personal ties keeping her rooted. This includes her only child, 30-year-old son Marcell Johnson.
“The thing is, I still have family here, so I’m kind of torn,” she explains. But I do want a space somewhere outside of the country. I absolutely do. That’s always been a dream of mine. But who knows? You’ve got to see. Because you want to feel safe where you’re going to.”
Henson’s remarks echo those of other stars who have contemplated or acted on the idea of living abroad. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, actress Eva Longoria relocated overseas, splitting her time between Mexico and Spain. After Donald Trump’s re-election, she expressed feeling “privileged” enough to leave before he took office. Similarly, Whoopi Goldberg and Cher voiced their desire to flee the U.S. in response to the dismal election results.
