Taraji P. Henson doesn’t miss a beat. The award-winning actress pulled off a remarkable feat, filming her lead role in Tyler Perry’s ”Straw” in just four days, all while actively working on her Peacock limited series, “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist.”
Speaking exclusively with People at the New York screening of “Straw,” Henson confirmed the tight turnaround.
“I was also at the time working on ‘Fight Night,’” she said. “They worked it out with my schedule. I went and shot this for four days and went right back to ’Fight Night.’”
The Netflix drama, written, produced, and directed by Perry, required surgical precision to make the most of Henson’s brief window. Perry told People, “It’s a great team that we all know what to do. Taraji only had four days, so we figured it out in those four days.”
Returning to work with Perry was an easy yes for Henson, who starred in his 2018 film “Acrimony.”
“He continues to challenge me and himself every time he sends me a script,” she said. “He ups the ante every time. And I appreciate that because he knows I love a good challenge.”
Henson plays Janiyah, a single mom on the edge, facing crisis after crisis with no safety net.
”Janiyah did scare me a lot,” she said. “I was drawn to this character because I love giving a voice to the voiceless.”
”Straw” premieres globally on Netflix June 6th.
