Billionaire president-elect Donald Trump wants a wall built between the United States and Mexico. He feels so strongly about this wall that he wants United States taxpayers to fund it.
Back in September, Donald Trump promised to his supporters that Mexico would pay for the border wall that he says, would keep illegal immigrants from entering the United States. Then, in November, Trump reportedly reneged on his decision to build a wall at all. Now, it appears that he wants the wall again.
Huffington Post reports that Congressional Republicans and Donald Trump’s transition team are working to figure out a way use taxpayer dollars to pay for building the wall. The goal is to build the wall without having to pass a new bill. They want to rely on existing legislation authorizing fencing and other technology along the southern border.
During Trump’s speech in Gettysburg, PA in October, Trump hinted to voters that Mexico would be reimbursing for the wall, not paying for it. Trump said the wall would be built on the U.S./Mexico border and Mexico will reimburse us for it. This implies that someone else would pay for it, and the only other option is the United States.
Donald Trump tweeted that having taxpayers fund the wall was all for the sake of speed. “The dishonest media does not report that any money spent on building the Great Wall (for sake of speed), will be paid back by Mexico later,” he tweeted.
What are your thoughts? Do you want your tax dollars to go towards the wall?
