Taylor Swift flexed her influence yet again, sending a powerful message that drove nearly 406,000 people to visit the government’s voter registration website, vote.gov, in just 24 hours.
Swift’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the 2024 election had the world talking following Tuesday night’s presidential debate.
Vote.gov, managed by the General Services Administration (GSA) and in collaboration with the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, provides voters with essential information on how to register and cast their ballots. Typically, the site sees around 30,000 visitors per day, but that number skyrocketed after Swift shared a direct link to the site on her Instagram following the recent presidential debate between Harris and former President Donald Trump.
In her Instagram post, Swift revealed her decision to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris and her Democratic running mate, Governor Tim Walz, while encouraging her fans to do their own research and get registered to vote. “I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make,” Swift wrote. She also stressed the importance of voter registration, especially for first-time voters, and urged early voting.
A GSA spokesperson confirmed that an impressive 405,999 users had visited vote.gov through Swift’s shared link in the first 24 hours. While visitors to vote.gov must ultimately register through their specific state’s website, Swift’s influence in driving traffic is undeniable.
