Over the weekend, rapper Tayy Brown took to social media to spill the tea on the long-rumored Verzuz battle between Lil Kim and Nicki Minaj.
According to Brown, the real reason Kim never agreed to the showdown isn’t what people might think and it has a lot to do with money.
In a video rant, Brown, who claims to have once been romantically involved with Lil Kim, kicked things off with a fiery statement: “I love Kim so much I would’ve spit on Nicki Minaj if I had the chance.”
He then dove into the tension that had been brewing between the two female rappers for years.
According to Brown, Kim turned down the Verzuz battle after discovering that Nicki would be getting paid more for the event. He framed this as a slap in the face to Kim, saying the pay gap felt disrespectful given Lil Kim’s pioneering role in rap. Brown added that this situation led Kim to walk away from the potential clash with Nicki and Foxy Brown.
He also claimed that Nicki once invited Kim to perform at a concert at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center but refused to pay her for the appearance. Brown painted this as another slight, suggesting Nicki’s actions were less about honoring Kim’s legacy and more about undermining it.
To close out his rant, Brown made it clear: “What makes u think anything I’m saying right now I give a fuck about Foxy Brown or Nicki Minaj. What the fuck y’all talking about? I didn’t even know who Foxy Brown was.”
As of now, neither Lil Kim nor Nicki Minaj have publicly responded to Brown’s comments.
While some fans feel both rappers should be equally respected and compensated for their contributions to hip-hop, others point to Nicki’s more recent commercial success as the reason for the pay gap.
