Trevone Boykin, quarterback for Texas Christian University, will be missing Saturday’s Alamo Bowl after getting arrested in San Antonio.
The incident took place at a Pat O’Brien’s bar just before 2am Thursday morning. A fight broke out when some patrons began heckling Boykin and his teammates, including Junior Wide Receiver Preston Miller, who are all in town to face off against Oregon in the Alamo Bowl. During the fight Boykin allegedly struck a bar employee. The fight continued outside the bar where bicycle police with the help of bouncers, attempted to break it up. As officers attempted to restore order, reports say Boykin struck one of them in the face. According to the arrest report, Boykin “was very aggressive and was being held back by the group that he was with. Members of his group stated they would get him back to the hotel they were staying at.”
Boykin was arrested and charged with assaulting a public servant, a third-degree felony. His bond was set at $5,000, which he posted late Thursday morning.
TCU Coach Gary Patterson issued a statement:
“Trevone Boykin and [junior wide receiver] Preston Miller have been suspended for Saturday’s game due to a violation of team rules. We are disappointed in their actions and apologize to the TCU Horned Frogs Nation, Valero Alamo Bowl and city of San Antonio.”
Following his arrest and suspension, Boykin was sent home. It is unclear what Miller did to get suspended.
