On Monday a Florida middle school drama teacher was arrested for having sex in her car with a former student on multiple occasions.
According to a police report acquired by the Miami Herald, the alleged relationship between Brittiny Lopez-Murray, 31, and the 14-year-old student began in August when the teacher texted him about “her feelings toward” him.
During the police investigation they found that Lopez-Murray and the student, who is now in high school, exchanged texts explaining “how much they enjoyed the sex with each other.”
The report stated that the teacher would sometimes pick the student up from basketball practice and then the two would then allegedly engage in sexual acts in her car.
Lopez-Murray has been teaching at Hialeah Middle School for four years, and in 2017 she was selected “rookie teacher of the year.”
According to reports, the student’s sister discovered the alleged relationship on Saturday after seeing sexual texts and images between him and the teacher.
Shortly after, the student’s father found a nude picture of Lopez-Murray on his phone.
According to the Miami-Dade school district, Lopez-Murray will be fired.
The district said, “All employees receive training and are expected to abide by the District’s Standards of Ethical Conduct policy. It is unfortunate that despite our efforts, the actions of some individuals run contrary to the behavior that is expected of them.”
Landon Ray, one of the teacher’s attorneys, stated that his client is “presumed innocent until proven guilty.”
“We hope everyone is patient, doesn’t rush to judgment and respects the family’s privacy,” the lawyer said.
