Team Harris-Walz is turning up the heat on voter engagement with the launch of their “Souls to the Polls” initiative, partnering with prominent Black faith leaders across the country. Inspired by Vice President Kamala Harris’ roots in the Black church, the month-long effort aims to encourage Black voters to make their voices heard at the ballot box in crucial battleground states.
Set to kick off on Sunday, October 13, with a national call that includes performances by gospel artists and speeches from faith leaders, this push will focus on getting Black voters out in record numbers. Harris herself will be making appearances at churches in key states to emphasize the importance of this election for Black Americans.
A national advisory board, made up of influential Black pastors and bishops, will lead this all-out effort. Heavy hitters like Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie, and Reverend Dr. Frederick D. Haynes III are just a few of the names lending their voices to this campaign. Together, they plan to reach out directly to their congregations, mobilizing their communities to vote in what could be one of the most pivotal elections in recent history.
The Souls to the Polls initiative is more than just a voter drive—it’s a testament to the Harris-Walz campaign’s commitment to maintaining a strong relationship with Black voters and the church, reminding the community of the high stakes in the upcoming election. The push will include in-person church engagements by Vice President Harris, who has long credited her faith for shaping her values and leadership.
As Harris’ National Advisory Board of Black Faith Leaders stated, “Vice President Harris is a woman of deep faith and principle, and she has never taken the Black Church for granted. Her leadership has brought real progress to Black communities, from support for Black-owned businesses to cutting healthcare costs. This election is critical, and we are standing with her to ensure every voice is heard.”
With less than 30 days until Election Day, Souls to the Polls serves as a final call for action, encouraging the Black community to turn out in force and make their voices count.
