A 16-year-old boy tied to a slew of bomb threats made against Washington, D.C. public schools has been arrested.
The Metropolitan Police Department has arrested a Southeast D.C. teenager after he allegedly threatened more than a half-dozen public schools in Washington, D.C., with anonymous bomb threats. Police say no explosives have been found, and the teen has yet to be identified, NBC Washington reports.
The news comes after several historically Black colleges and universities were subjected to bomb threats over the past couple of weeks. Six “tech-savvy” juveniles were named persons of interest.
The FBI and the Metropolitan Police Department are working together in the case.
“This is preliminary. So I can’t say with any certainty it’s not related to recent threats with the historically black colleges, but our partners at the FBI Washington Field Office will work with us to kind of decipher what we have here and make those links – if any. But at this time, it doesn’t appear to be related,” said Executive Assistant Chief of Police Ashan Benedict, NBC Washington reports.
