Teen Arrested For Fleeing & Eluding As Part Of Her Bucket List

A Florida woman’s dreams came true when she was arrested for fleeing and eluding, an experience she says she has always wanted.

On Thursday, 19-year-old Janiya Shaimiracle Douglas spent her morning taking police on a brief chase that began on Card Sound Road in Homestead. At around 7:47 a.m., Sgt. Robert Dosh with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department spotted the teen in a Toyota sedan speeding and driving recklessly. When Dosh turned on his patrol car’s sirens and lights, Douglas didn’t stop, continuing to speed southbound until stopping at a 3-way intersection at County Road 905.

Once Dosh caught up with Douglas, she confessed that getting arrested was on her “bucket list since high school.” He quickly fulfilled her goal by taking Douglas into custody for fleeing and eluding.

Douglas was booked into the Monroe County Jail. It is unclear if she has been released yet.

Though bizarre, getting arrested is on many people’s wishlist. In November, a terminally ill man was arrested in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England, for mooning a speed camera as part of his list of things to do before he died. Last June, a 96-year-old hospice patient in North Texas was arrested as part of her final wishes.
