Last Wednesday, a 15-year-old died after falling multiple floors on a cruise ship returning to Miami, causing a terrifying series of “man overboard” announcements.
Crew Center sources confirmed that the young teen fell from Deck 16 and landed on the promenade on Deck 8.
This was the ship’s last day of a five-day cruise through the Caribbean.
In footage of the incident posted to YouTube, one woman is heard screaming “Oh my God, oh my God,” she said, “It’s awful. Can we stop, can we please stop.”
A spokesperson for MSC Cruises said in a statement to CBS 4 that the incident is being investigated as a suspected suicide.
“All of us at MSC Cruises are heartbroken. The family remains in our thoughts and prayers,” the spokesperson said. “Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will not be discussing any additional details.”
Fox News also reported that a Miami-Dade Police Department detective said authorities arrived on the scene the next morning at Port Miami and determined that “no foul play” had taken place.
