A Milwaukee teenager was shot Sunday night during an alleged robbery at a Burger King where she worked near 51st and Capitol.
Niesha Harris Brazell, 16, received life-threatening injuries during the shooting. She was brought to an area hospital and later pronounced dead, according to CBS 58.
The incident is still under investigation, but police believe it was related to a robbery. Milwaukee police released photos of a suspect they believe was involved. He is described as African American with a heavy build. The suspect is seen wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and tan pants in the photo. His face is covered by a mask.
“Last night’s shooting death of a 16-year-old girl is a horrible tragedy, made worse by the circumstances the police have shared with me,” acting Mayor Cavalier Johnson said in a statement, in part. “This victim appears to have been a hardworking teenager with her future bright and ahead of her. Instead, that light has been snuffed out by senseless gun violence. I offer my deepest condolences to her family and friends.”Â
A spokesperson for Burger King told the outlet that the franchise is fully cooperating with the police.Â
“We are aware of and saddened to hear of the fatal shooting involving a team member at this location,” the fast food chain said. “Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s family and friends during this devastating time.”
The teen’s family set up a GoFundMe to help pay for funeral costs. The online fundraiser has exceeded its initial goal of $5,000.
