After blackmailing a girl for nudes, Aaron Coleman, a Kansas teen Democrat who won a primary for a Kansas state House seat, is now admitting to verbally abusing his ex-girlfriend.
“While it is true I was abusive to my ex-girlfriend, I do not agree with the characterization being made about our experience in the hot tub the day after Christmas,” Coleman said in a statement released over the weekend. “I did not choke her. I also don’t think she is intentionally lying, as I know large quantities of alcohol could be affecting both of our memories.”
In an Intercept report published last month, Taylor Passow, Coleman’s ex, stated that in 2019, two days after Christmas, she and the 19-year-old politician were in a hot tub when she proposed that the couple break up temporarily so that he could have a threesome.
“He sat there for a few seconds, then he jumped on top of me, put his hands around my throat and started squeezing, and slapped me three times, and said, ‘I don’t know where the fuck you think you’re going,'” Passow told the Intercept. Passow said she pushed Coleman off of her.
Passow’s longtime friend corroborated her story to the news outlet, revealing that Passow told her about the incident shortly after it happened. Along with a statement from Coleman’s ex, the outlet also released text messages between her and Coleman that talked about what had happened days later. Coleman told Passow that she had a “funny memory” of their encounter.
“You dumped me, and I smacked you, and you smacked me, and I immediately got up and stormed out of the hot tub,” he said.
“All I have to say is he did choke me, and I don’t know why he’s saying alcohol had any play in the assault,” Passow told VICE News in a message. “It was 10 a.m., and neither of us had been drinking.”
Four days after the reported incident, Coleman texted Passow, telling her to kill herself.
“Air out the clip into your head,” Coleman said in texts. “Mag dump yourself. Do that midnight tonight. If I never hear from you again, then I’ll know what happened.”
In a different encounter, the former couple discussed Passow hitchhiking to see Coleman.
“I hope you get abducted raped, chopped up and have ya pieces scattered around and Burnt in different locations,” said Coleman, who also suggested that women who hitchhike get brutalized. “You might get lucky, and they might kill you first, then rape your corpse.”
After admitting to subjecting his ex to abuse, Coleman stated, “We must strive to create a society safe for women, which we do not currently do.”
He also said that the abuse was not just on his end but by him and Passow.
“The two months I dated Taylor were mutually abusive, and this is not a justification for what I did but the reason why I must lead by example.”
Coleman has previously been linked to girls who accused him of blackmail and bullying in middle school.
One of those victims is Kati Hampton, who told The New York Times that at the age of 13, Coleman blackmailed her. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After receiving a nude photo of Hampton, he ordered her to send more images, and if she didn’t, he would release the image that he had of her. When she refused to send another, he spread the obscene photo of her around.
A second girl stated that the abuse she suffered at the hands of Coleman, who admitted to verbally attacking girls in middle school, led to her attempted suicide.
“[He was] calling me fat, telling me to kill myself, like I’m never going to find anyone, like I’m worthless, just downgrading me every day,” the girl told the Kansas City Star.
Despite the reports and allegations brought against him, Coleman was recently appointed as a Kansas state House primary.
