Authorities say a 17-year-old girl in Minnesota is dead after she was allegedly intentionally run over by a car after a fight this weekend.
Dylan Simmons, 20, has been charged with third-degree murder and criminal vehicular homicide, PEOPLE reported.
Police allege Simmons arrived at a Forest Lake park where he saw “two groups of individuals” fighting with weapons, including a “baseball bat, a crowbar and a folding knife,” according to a criminal complaint obtained by Star-Tribune.
Authorities say that’s when he “intentionally drove in the direction of several people from the opposing side of the conflict” and ran into the rear end of another car where 17-year-old Darisha Bailey Vath was sitting.
When the victim got out of the car, police say Simmons hit her again with the vehicle before backing up his car and driving toward a crowd.
Police arrived on the scene to find the teen on the ground receiving CPR from a bystander. She was declared dead on the scene.
Simmons later returned to the scene and allegedly admitted to police that he had knowingly run her over.
“I’ll never see her again. Never hold her. Never be able to tell her I love her,” Vath’s mother Sarath Vath told the Tribune.
Darius Bailey, the victum’s father arrived on the scene after the incident, and says, “I never wish any parent [to] have to see their child lay on the ground like that. It’s going to be very hard to live with those memories in my head.”
“All those dreams have been shattered,” Vath’s family wrote on the GoFundMe, that described her as a “vibrant” person who inspired to be a veterinarian. “We will never see our daughter, niece, sister and cousin fulfill her future.”
Simmons’ bail is set at $750,000.
