A teenage boy, unfortunately, fell to his death while on an amusement park ride at Orlando’s Icon Park.
According to Orange County Sheriff’s office, witnesses at the scene told deputies that someone had fallen from the FreeFall ride.
“At first, we thought it was a piece of the ride or whatever until we got a little closer,” one bystander said. “And it was a person laying on the ground. Everyone was just panicking and screaming.”
In a news conference on Friday, Sheriff John Mina identified the teenager as Tyre Sampson. Mina says Sampson was visiting his family in Florida.
According to Mina, Tyre Sampson was strapped in with a large locking device over his shoulders but was “not aware of a seatbelt.”
The Florida attraction was deemed “world’s tallest free-standing drop tower,” standing at 400 feet with a 30-degree tilt. The attraction opened up in December alongside the Orlando Slingshot. However, John Stine, the director of sales and marketing for the Slingshot Group of Companies says the ride will remain closed “indefinitely.”
