Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, will serve 45 days in federal prison after admitting he violated his supervised release stemming from his earlier racketeering case.
According to court documents, Tekashi committed five separate violations, including traveling without the required permission, failing mandated drug tests, and testing positive for methamphetamines. During sentencing, Judge Paul A. Engelmayer criticized the rapper, stating the infractions signaled a belief that “the rules don’t apply to you.”
This sentence adds to Tekashi’s legal history. Tekashi was previously convicted in 2019 for his role in the violent New York‑based gang the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods, pleaded guilty, cooperated with prosecutors, and received a two‑year prison term and five years of supervised release. Though he was released early in 2020 under house confinement due to health concerns during the Covid‑19 pandemic, he remained under supervision when the new violations emerged.
In light of these newest violations, the judge extended Tekashi’s period of supervised release, imposed home‑detention and curfew phases following the prison term, and emphasized that any further misconduct could trigger far harsher penalties.
