Tesla Recalls 135,000 Cars Due To Touchscreen Failures

Tesla recalls 135,000 Model S sedans and Model X SUVs because of issues with their large center touchscreens.

According to CNN Business, Tesla had previously objected to a push from regulators to issue the recall, as the company claimed that the problem was not a safety issue.

The recall will begin March 30th and apply to some 2012 through 2018 Model S sedans and 2016 through 2018 Model X vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) considers the defective touchscreen a safety issue. Without a functioning center screen, the display for the car’s backup camera and control for the window defroster defogger fail.

Under the recall, Tesla will be required to notify car owners of defective touchscreens and replace a computer chip that controls the screen.
