Ten alleged gang members are in various stages of prosecution in connection to the April 2020 attempted murder of a Virginia mother left for dead after being shot in the head and forced to drink bleach.
Ten members of the Rollin’ 20’s Outlaw Bloods were charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, grand larceny, abduction, mob assault, conspiracy to commit a felony, and various other gang-related charges.
WKTR reports that the victim, Brianna Arrington, initially tried to join the gang by getting jumped in. According to court documents obtained by the outlet, Arrington was repeatedly punished for not correctly following orders or not precisely reciting information about the gang. Each time she was assaulted.
On April 23, 2020, Arrington took her 2-year-old son to an apartment for a movie night with other gang members. After being assaulted, she told gang leader Brandon “Sayso” Winnegan that she no longer wanted to be part of the gang. Toporshia “Lawless” Hodges, the highest-ranking female member, decided Arrington would need to be killed because she knew too much.
Arrington was strangled until she passed out, and people tried to break her neck when she didn’t die. They stabbed her and tried to pour bleach down her throat. Arrington was then driven several blocks away in her Mercedes, placed in the front seat, and shot several times.
A concerned neighbor discovered the victim. When police arrived on the scene, Arrington’s face was so swollen that they couldn’t tell if she was still alive or not.
The 2-year-old child was unharmed. The boy was left alone on the street in another neighborhood, where he was found wandering around in the rain by a sanitation worker. The toddler has been placed in foster care.
Toporshia Hodges, 23; Javonne D. Hodges, 23; Asja D. Smith-Moore, 21; Ginger A. McAfee, 20; Sadia M. Brown, 25; Skylar D. Webb, 20, have all pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing. Deondre T. Watkins, 25, has a plea hearing next week. Brandon L. Winnegan, 32, and Xavier A. Walker, 24, are still pending trial.
One member, Tavarrius “Flash” Mitchell, 20, pleaded guilty to seven felonies last June. He was sentenced to 34 years in state prison.
