A Tennessee state senator has been charged with finessing $600,000 in federal funds to pay for her wedding and fund her lavish lifestyle.
According to the NY Post, Senator Katrina Robinson allegedly stole money that was intended for the Healthcare Institute, a company that she directed.
For four years, from 2015 to 2019, Robinson reportedly paid for her wedding, her honeymoon, and even used the money to cover the cost of her legal fees for her divorce.
If that wasn’t enough, the Democrat, who was elected in 2018, also used the federal funds to pay for her daughter’s 2016 Jeep Renegade, home improvements, a Louis Vuitton bag, and invested in her children’s snow cone business, according to prosecutors.
As a result, Robinson has been charged with theft, embezzlement, and wire fraud. However, she says she will remain in the state legislature “with the same integrity, the same passion that I’ve demonstrated since you’ve elected me to this office.”
“It is believed that if I were not in the position that I’m in, that if I did not champion the voices, the views and the faces that I represent, that I would not be in this moment right now,” Robinson said.
The Tennessee state Senate Democratic Caucus also backed Robinson, saying that she “deserves the presumption of innocence and due process.”
