A Tennessee man led police on a chase across two counties when they learned the suspect had cut off his genitalia and threw it out the window during the pursuit.Â
Tyson Gilbert, 39, told police that he heard voices coming out of his car radio telling him to cut off his penis to save the world.Â
Gilbert had parked his Honda Accord on Highway 70, blocking traffic. Trooper Bobby Johnson spotted the car and pulled up behind him.Â
“When I pulled up behind him and turned my lights on, he took off and refused to stop,” Johnson told WJLE. “He was all over the road the whole time.”
When he finally pulled over, Gilbert opened the vehicle’s door, revealing he was naked and covered in blood. He shut the door and pulled off.Â
Police laid down spike strips twice, but Gilbert still didn’t pull over. The spike strips did pop a couple of his tires, and it was enough to slow him down.Â
The man was finally taken into custody after his car had been boxed in by officers. Gilbert was taken to Vanderbilt hospital for his injuries. His condition was provided.Â
The Tennessee Highway Patrol confirmed to Newsweek that Gilbert suffered from what appeared to be self-inflicted injuries.Â
Gilbert does have active warrants against him Cookeville. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and no other details were made available.
The chase involved multiple agencies, including THP officers from Cookeville and Nashville, the DeKalb County sheriff’s department, Wilson County sheriff’s office, the Alexandria police department, and the Watertown police department.Â
