Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier was arrested early Thursday morning in Orlando as part of a federal gambling probe tied to illegal sports betting, according to multiple reports from AP News and The New York Post.
Federal investigators allege Rozier was connected to an expanding FBI investigation into illegal betting activity involving professional athletes. Sources told the Associated Press that the case is being handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, with FBI agents leading the arrests.
Rozier was taken into custody without incident and is expected to make his first court appearance later this week.
Authorities haven’t released the full list of charges yet, but federal prosecutors confirmed Rozier is being held pending formal indictment.
This arrest follows months of speculation surrounding Rozier’s name, which surfaced earlier this year in connection to “suspicious betting patterns” during a 2023 Hornets game, before his trade to the Miami Heat.
Rozier’s arrest comes just days after other high-profile figures were also swept into the federal crackdown. Reports indicate that Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups was detained in a related case, suggesting the investigation is widening across the NBA landscape.
FBI sources say the probe has uncovered “extensive evidence of coordinated gambling activity,” but have yet to confirm whether players bet on their own games.
If found guilty, Rozier could face a multi-year suspension in addition to federal penalties.
Rozier, 30, is in his first full season with Miami after being traded from Charlotte in early 2024. He averaged 16.4 points per game last season before suffering a late-year injury.
