Tesla announced yesterday that it is working on designing a humanoid robot that will be able to perform physical tasks, and it will likely have a prototype ready sometime next year.
CEO Elon Musk said the robot, dubbed the “Tesla Bot,” will have a screen on its face that will display “useful information.”
The robot’s concept, announced during the company’s AI Day presentation, is part of the tech giant’s overall plan to advance automation.
Musk said the robot’s main function would be to take on the responsibilities most humans don’t enjoy doing.
“It’s basically going to start dealing with work that is boring, repetitive, and dangerous,” Musk said. “What is the work that people would least like to do?”
Musk also predicted that the robot would have a “profound” impact on the economy and that physical work would be a choice in the future.
“If you want to do it, you can, but you won’t need to do it,” he said.
