Tesla Recalls All Cybertrucks Due to Accelerator Pedal Issue

Tesla is back in the spotlight with yet another recall, this time affecting nearly 700,000 vehicles due to an issue with the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) warning light.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a recall notice Thursday, highlighting that the affected vehicles include specific 2024 Cybertruck models, 2017-2025 Model 3 vehicles, and 2020-2025 Model Y vehicles.

What’s the Problem?

The problem stems from the TPMS warning light, which is supposed to alert drivers to low tire pressure. The light, however, may fail to stay illuminated between drive cycles. Without this warning, drivers may unknowingly operate their vehicles with improperly inflated tires, significantly increasing the risk of a crash.

Tesla’s Solution

Tesla plans to address the issue with a free software update for impacted vehicles. This fix aims to ensure the TPMS warning light functions correctly, keeping drivers informed of potential tire pressure problems.

What Owners Need to Know

Tesla will begin notifying affected vehicle owners through mailed letters, which are expected to go out by February 15, 2025. In the meantime, owners can contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 for more information. Alternatively, they can reach out to the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.nhtsa.gov.

A History of Recalls

This isn’t Tesla’s first recall of the year. In fact, the Cybertruck alone has faced seven recalls in 2024. Just last month, Tesla recalled approximately 2,400 vehicles due to another safety concern. These frequent recalls highlight the challenges Tesla continues to face as it scales production and rolls out new models like the Cybertruck.
