Tesla Recalls Nearly 54,000 Cars and SUVs After “Full Self-Driving” Software Lets Cars Run Through Stop Signs

American electric vehicle and clean energy company Tesla has issued a recall on its “full self-driving” software after cars were running stop signs.

According to ABC News, Tesla announced it would be disabling its “Full-Self Driving” software because it’s been letting the cars roll right on through stop signs instead of first coming to a complete stop. Now, the company is calling back in nearly 54,000 cars and SUVs.

The news outlet reports that the software has a “rolling stop” feature that allows vehicles to go through intersections with all-way stop signs at up to 5.6 miles per hour. The software was given to selected drivers who are participating in the company’s “beta testing” of the “Full Self-Driving” software.

According to documents, the recall comes after Tesla had two meetings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration officials. The company says it didn’t have any reports about injuries or accidents caused by the feature.

The vehicles included in the recall are Model S sedans and X SUVs from 2016 through 2022, Model 3 sedans from 2017 to 2022, and Model Y SUVs from 2020 through 2022.
