Texans QB Ryan Mallett Missed Team Flight to Miami for Sunday’s Game – blogged by @LoveRubyWoo

Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett is definitely feeling some type of way about being benched in favor of Brian Hoyer, and it’s showing. During the Texans’ Week 5 game against the Indianapolis Colts, Mallett, who had won the starting spot in Week 2, was benched after a lousy first quarter on offense and a minor injury he sustained in the second quarter. Quarterback Brian Hoyer went into the game in his place and although the Texans still lost, Hoyer looked pretty impressive on the field. Since then, he has remained the coach’s choice over Mallett.

On top of mediocre play, Mallett has also been vying for the Worst Employee Award this season. In August, it was first announced that Hoyer would get the starting spot over Mallett going into the season. Days later, Mallett coincidentally skipped practice during training camp because he overslept, telling coaches that his alarm didn’t go off because his phone died. Then, when the Texans flew to Miami this weekend for Sunday’s game against the Dolphins, Mallett missed the team flight because he said he was stuck in traffic. Yet somehow all the other players made it on time. Mallett then had to buy his own commercial flight to Miami and I’m gonna bet that he had to face a pretty angry Bill O’Brien when he landed in South Florida.

During the preseason, as shown on HBO’s Hard Knocks, Hoyer was given the start initially but O’Brien told Mallett that there would be a lot of back and forth between which quarterback played each week. The Texans have indeed been shuffling between Hoyer and Mallett all season but it looks like Hoyer may be the answer, at least for now. If Mallett plays his cards right, he may still have a chance to win the starting spot back. But with the way he’s acting now, he might not even have a spot on the roster anymore if he keeps it up. According to multiple sources, O’Brien is pretty fed up with his recent antics.

Unfortunately, a salty Ryan Mallett is the least of the Texans’ problems. The Texans ended up losing to the Dolphins 44-26 on Sunday and are looking at a dismal 2-5 record at near the halfway mark of the season. On top of that, their star running back Arian Foster sustained an Achilles injury during the game. It’s safe to say that things aren’t looking too bright in Houston right about now.
